Description
The sacrament, as we know it, was introduced by Jesus the night before he was crucified. Creating symbols of bread and wine, he asked his followers to eat and drink in remembrance of his flesh and blood—the life he laid down for each of us to atone for the sins of the world. This infinite and eternal sacrifice was the greatest gift God has to offer the world—the sacrifice of his only begotten and perfect lamb. John 3:16
Since Home Church began at the beginning of this Covid-19 Pandemic, the sacrament has taken on new, deeper meaning for me and my family. There is a freshness to it—a remembering of why we need the atonement of Christ, but also a remembering of covenants we made with God—that He made with us.
When we are baptized we covenant to take Christ’s name upon us, always remember him, and keep his commandments. And God promises us that if we do these things we will always have his spirit to be with us. In many ways it’s an equation. A + B +C = X. We cannot forget or neglect any of our commitments and expect X to be there for us. Picking and choosing which commandments are important for us to follow was never part of God’s hope for us. And obedience was and always has been the first law of heaven.
In both plates, this remembering of our three commitments plays a role in the design. Remembering Jesus Christ allows us to become centered, giving us a foundation on which we can build without fear of failure. Red—the symbol of sacrifice—in both plate designs, is found in a circle—a simple symbol of eternity. Both plate designs draw our eyes to the center where our reward for obedience is received.
The year 2020 was a unique year for all of us and a time to come back to the center, consider our faith and what is most important, and ponder on the merits and mercies of God.
These come in only one size, small—only 6” to help us to remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keeping them small has also allowed us to keep the price low so everyone might afford them and share them as gifts with people they love. Our goal is help your family bring more meaning to your home-based worship services by remembering your covenants with God and his son, Jesus Christ.
